BIOE 1000 – Orientation and Introduction to Bioengineering

DESIGNATION:                   Required

DESCRIPTION:                    Orientation to the University of Toledo, the College of Engineering and the Department of Bioengineering. Topics also include a general introduction to the field of bioengineering, and a survey of engineering computing resources.

PREREQUISITE:                   Acceptance into Bioengineering

TEXTBOOK:                         None

OBJECTIVES:                       To introduce students to UT and the College of Engineering

To develop communication skills with papers and presentations

To introduce students to the field of Bioengineering

To develop computer skills required for subsequent courses

Current Areas of Biomedical Engineering

Life Long Learning in the Biomedical Field

Medical School/Graduate School, Researcher in Bioengineering

Introduction to computer resources and computer software

SCHEDULE:                          1 - 50 minute lecture and 1 - 50 minute computer lab per week

OUTCOMES:                        This course will develop the following skills that are required of bioengineering graduates:

(k)   An ability to use the techniques, skills, and modern engineering tools necessary for engineering practice
